Baseball Falls Twice On Saturday

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Quinnipiac plated five runs in the top of the 10th inning to clip UNCW, 10-6, in college baseball action on Saturday as the Seahawks also dropped a 7-3 decision to nationally-ranked Georgia at Brooks Field.

The Seahawks fell to 1-2 on the opening weekend with the home losses. Georgia and Quinnipiac improved to 3-0 and 1-3, respectively.

Against Quinnipiac, Trevor Lucas led the Seahawks with a pair of runs batted in and drawing three walks. Mac Gillespie added a pair of doubles.

Jack Gibson (0-1) was saddled with the loss in relief. Freshman Cam Bagwell fanned seven in his collegiate debut over 5.1 innings.

In the opener against fourth-ranked Georgia, the Bulldogs broke a 3-all deadlock with a three-run seventh and then tacked on a run in the eighth.

Aubrey Smith (0-1) was tagged with the loss.

The Seahawks and Georgia close out the weekend with a 3 p.m. start on Sunday.
