Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Brandon Sans

Win Streak Grows to Six Games

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Using a familiar script of four players in double figures and shooting better than 50 percent from the floor, the UNCW men's basketball earned its sixth consecutive win with an 80-70 triumph over visiting Stony Brook on Saturday night at Trask Coliseum.

The Seahawks improved to 18-5 and maintained a share of second place at 8-2 in the league. The Seawolves fell to 5-18 and 1-9 in conference play.

UNCW's Donovan Newby led the way with 20 points followed by a season-high 15 points from Greedy Williams. Bo Montgomery and Nolan Hodge each had 12 points to give the Seahawks at least four in double figures for the sixth straight game.

Stony Brook's Collin O'Connor scored a game-high 27 points on 9-of-17 shooting. The visiting guard was aided in double-digits by CJ Luster (15) and Nick Woodard (14).

The Seahawks shot 56.8 percent, one-tenth off their season-high vs. a Division I opponent, and 52.4 percent from three-point range (11-of-21), a season-high percentage vs. a D1 school.
UNCW built a double-digit first-half lead with an 18-5 run and took a 42-31 lead into halftime behind 10 first-half assists.

The Seawolves chipped away throughout the second half and pulled within four points three times, but a 9-0 Seahawk stretch over three minutes down the stretch put the game to bed.

UNCW next begins a stretch with five of its next seven games on the road starting with a 6:30 p.m. Thursday night contest at Delaware.

GAME NOTES: UNCW is 3-1 all-time vs. Stony Brook … The Seahawks are 16-0 when leading at halftime … UNCW is 13-2 at home … It was the fifth straight sellout at the Coliseum of Chaos … UNCW has hit 80 points in six straight games for the second time this century and first since 2016-17 … Seven different Seahawks had a steal … UNCW won the rebounding margin, 31-30.
