Seahawks Rally to Run Win Streak to Seven

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW men's basketball team sank eight free throws in the final 1:24 to erase a seven-point deficit in a 70-69 victory over Marshall before a sold-out Trask Coliseum on Wednesday night.

The Seahawks pushed their win streak to seven games and stand 8-1 overall, including an unbeaten 7-0 home mark. The Thundering Herd dropped their second straight game and fell to 5-3.

UNCW's Patrick Wessler achieved his fourth double-double of the season with a career-high 21 points to go with 13 rebounds, a block and a steal. Senior Nolan Hodge finished one shy of his personal benchmark with 20 points, including 11 from the free throw line, while Madison Durr fashioned his fifth straight contest in double-digits with 11 markers.

Four Marshall players reached double-figures: Noah Otshudi (18), Wilson Dubinsky (12), Jalen Speer (11) and Matt Van Komen (10).

The back-and-forth contest featured 15 lead changes and seven ties with neither team holding a lead bigger than eight points. UNCW carried a narrow 31-29 edge at halftime.

Marshall, trailing 61-58 with 6:21 remaining in the game, rattled off an 11-1 stretch to take a seven-point lead, 69-62, with 1:39 to play.

Hodge and Greedy Williams drained four straight free throws with 84 seconds on the clock after a Herd foul was compounded with a technical foul to make it a one-possession game entering the final minute.
Wessler and Hodge each converted a pair with 48 and 19 seconds left, respectively, to complete the comeback. A late defensive stand at the buzzer sealed the win.

The Seahawks begin a two-game road swing on Saturday afternoon at Louisiana.
