Seahawks Prevail 87-78 in CAA Opener

GREENSBORO, NORTH CAROLINA – UNCW seniors Nolan Hodge and Greedy Williams combined for 43 points as the Seahawks overcame a double-digit deficit for the third time this season to prevail, 87-78, at North Carolina A&T in the Coastal Athletic Association men's basketball opener on Monday night.

The Seahawks upped their record to 12-2 and claimed their conference opener for the first time in three seasons. The Aggies fell to 7-5 and 0-1 in the league as their three-game win streak came to a close.

Hodge, a Greensboro native, splashed a career-high five three-pointers en route to a game-high 24 points while Williams reset his personal benchmark with 19 points. Senior Madison Durr contributed 13 points off the bench, buoyed by a perfect 6-of-6 showing from the free-throw line.

Redshirt sophomore Patrick Wessler added 12 and Gavin Walsh provided a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds.

N.C. A&T's Lewis Walker scored 23 points and was joined in double-digits by Zamoku Ume-Weluche's 19 and Dwayne Pierce's 18 points.

The Seahawks, who trailed by as many as 11 in the first half, began their comeback with seven straight points to take the lead less than four minutes into the second half before Pierce converted an and-one to flip the lead back to the Aggies.

A Hodge trifecta kicked-started a UNCW 9-0 spurt at 15:45 to take the lead for good. The Aggies briefly tied the game at the 9:02 mark and never trailed by more than nine, but the Seahawks held them at bay en route to the victory.
