Seahawks Close Non-Conference Slate with Victory

WILMINGTON, NORTH CAROLINA – Five Seahawks registered double figures, including Patrick Wessler's 13-point, 10-rebound double-double, as UNCW closed out non-conference men's basketball action with a 100-56 victory over Columbia College (S.C.) on Saturday afternoon at Trask Coliseum.

The Seahawks (11-2) matched a program record with the 2016-17 CAA Championship team with 11 non-conference victories. The game was considered an exhibition for the Koalas, an NAIA program.

Seniors Nolan Hodge and Madison Durr paced all scorers with 17 points, while Gavin Walsh scored a season-high 16 points in his first start of the season. Noah Ross contributed 14, along with Wessler, whose team-high sixth double-double of the season rounded five in double figures for the fifth time this season.

Columbia guard Zach Smith was the lone Koala in double-figures with 14 points.

The Seahawks built a double-digit lead less than five minutes into the contest on the back of a 9-0 spurt in which four different players contributed points.

After carrying a 47-24 lead into halftime, UNCW opened the second half with 15 straight points to swell the lead to 62-24.

The Seahawks open league play on Monday night at North Carolina A&T. The game will air nationally on CBS Sports Network at 7 p.m.
