Howard Halts UNCW Win Streak

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The Howard men's basketball team closed the first half on a 26-6 run to hand UNCW its first home setback of the 2025-26 season, 67-66, on Saturday afternoon at Trask Coliseum.

The Bison (9-5) rattled off their fifth straight win, the last four all against Coastal Athletic Association teams. The Seahawks (10-2) snapped their nine-game win streak as well as their eight-game home win streak dating back to last year's regular season finale.

UNCW, which was led in scoring by Christian May's 13 points along with Patrick Wessler's equal total to go with a career-high-tying 14 rebounds, shot a season-low 20 percent (4-of-20)  from three-point range and 39.3 percent (24-of-61) overall.

Howard, meanwhile, was keyed by four double-digit scorers, all of whom had at least 14 points: Bryce Harris (18), Cam Gillus (16), Cedric Taylor III (15), and Ose Okojie (14).

The Seahawks jumped out to a 21-12 lead at the 8:49 mark in the first half. At that point, they had held the Bison to 4-of-18 shooting.

Howard then hit eight of its next 10 shots as part of a game-changing 18-2 run to flip the lead for good, 30-23, with 3:10 before halftime.

The Seahawks' late comeback bid included a 14-3 run over the final 7:33 of the game to trim the deficit to one, but a last-second attempt near the rim fell off the mark as time expired and sealed the 67-66 verdict.

UNCW closes out non-conference play following Christmas with a Noon matinee contest against Columbia College, an NAIA school in South Carolina.
