Women's Basketball Knocked Off By Tar Heels

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Nyla Brooks scored a game-high 16 points and Ciera Toomey added 15, as nationally-ranked North Carolina topped visiting UNCW, 84-34, on Wednesday in women's college basketball action at Carmichael Arena.

The 16th-ranked Tar Heels pushed their record to 10-3 on the season and 5-1 at home. The Seahawks, meanwhile, dropped their third straight and fell to 3-6.

Brooks finished 6-of-10 from the field, including 4-for-7 from 3-point range. Toomey was 7-for-10 and hauled in seven rebounds. Indya Nivar grabbed a game-high nine caroms.

The Tar Heels built a 47-18 halftime lead behind a combined 24 points from Toomey (13) and Brooks (11).

Rori Cox, the Coastal Athletic Association steals leader, finished with four steals. She added a team-high eight points.

The Seahawks close out their four-game road stretch on Dec. 21 at Longwood.
