The Seahawks will look to regroup after starting slow in their home opener, eventually falling 80-56 to Coastal Carolina. 

UNCW shot 20-for-60 (33%) from the field and only 4-for-22 (18.2%) from 3-point distance, while Coastal Carolina went 29-for-74 (39.2%) from the field and shot 10-for-25 (40%) from beyond the arc. Coastal Carolina outrebounded UNCW 50-40, including a 20-3 edge in offensive rebounds.

Graduate guard Rori Cox recorded 20 points, seven rebounds and four assists in her first career NCAA Division I start against Coastal Carolina. Cox became the first Seahawk to record at least 20 points and five rebounds in back-to-back games since Ali Zelaya, who earned USBWA Ann Meyers Drysdale Player of the Week honors for the feat last February.

As of Nov. 18, Cox is tied for fifth in the Coastal Athletic Association in scoring, averaging 17 points per game.

Senior guard and Shelby, North Carolina native, Kate Hollifield started in 31 of 32 games last season, averaging 6.8 points per game, the most by any returner for UNCW. Hollifield also led all players in the CAA in 3-point percentage during conference play, shooting 43.5% from beyond the arc in 18 CAA games. 

In 2025-26, Hollifield is ninth in the CAA in 3-point percentage, shooting 5-for-12 (41.7%). She is 5-for-8 (62.5%) from beyond the arc in her last two games.

Freshman forward Icyss Storm recorded back-to-back double-digit scoring efforts in her first two games. Storm ranks first in the CAA in field goal percentage, shooting 12-of-17 (70.6%).

SCOUTING THE RUNNIN' BULLDOGS

After dropping their first four games, Gardner-Webb earned a 55-35 win at home against Hampton on Sunday, Nov. 16.

Gardner-Webb shot 20-of-44 (45%) from the field and held Hampton to shooting just 11-of-52 (21.2%) overall and 4-of-27 (14.8%) from 3-point range. The Runnin' Bulldogs also had a 22-12 advantage in points in the paint.

Amina Gray scored a career-high 18 points in the victory. Jalyn Acker added 12 points, making four 3-pointers, and Amira Ofunniyin recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Nyla Walker leads Gardner-Webb with 11.8 points per game. The Runnin' Bulldogs are 85th in the nation, shooting 35% from 3-point range as a team. 

SERIES HISTORY

Since 1980, UNCW leads the all-time series 5-1. UNCW has scored 100 or more points in all five of its wins against Gardner-Webb. 

LAST MEETING

The two teams last played on Feb. 24, 1984, with UNCW earning a 100-70 victory at Trask Coliseum.

UP NEXT

On Friday, Nov. 21, the Seahawks will host Presbyterian in the Seahawks Tomorrow Game at 11 a.m. UNCW earned a 78-74 overtime road win against Presbyterian last season. The Seahawks lead the all-time series 4-1.
