ELON, N.C. – Redshirt sophomore forward Hailey Longwell scored the equalizer in the 73rd minute, helping UNCW women's soccer salvage a 1-1 draw against Elon in a Coastal Athletic Association South Division matchup on Thursday night at Rudd Field.
UNCW moved to 7-3-2 overall and 3-0-1 in the CAA, while Elon moved to 6-2-4 and 0-2-2 in the conference. The Seahawks remain in first place in the CAA South Division with 10 points.
Jess Beck broke the tie in the 56th minute on Elon's first shot attempt of the match.Â
Longwell answered for the Seahawks with a header in the 73rd minute for her third goal of the season, scoring off the assists by midfielders Reese Bodas and Allie Planeaux.
The Seahawks nearly recorded the match-winner in the final seconds, but a foul call preceding the shot negated the goal.
UNCW's offensive unit produced three corners in the first 10 minutes of the match. The Seahawks ended the contest with a 5-4 advantage in shots and a 7-3 edge in corners.
On Sunday, Oct. 5, UNCW will host divisional foe Hampton (5-7-1, 0-4 CAA) on Senior Day at UNCW Soccer Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
Before the start of the match, UNCW Seahawks will honor eight seniors: Kayla Adams, Reese Bodas, Allison Burrus, Morgan Hobbs, Taylor O'Brien, Ayanna Parker, Nicole Poole and Alex Tsumas.
