Volleyball Upended By Coastal In Sweep

CONWAY, S.C. – Coastal Carolina remained hot with a sweep (25-19, 25-21, 25-22) win over visiting UNCW on Wednesday in non-conference volleyball action at the HTC Center.

The Chants extended their winning streak to seven and saw their record improve to 14-4 while the Seahawks moved to 3-15.

Hannah Forbes headed up the UNCW offense with 10 kills and Olivia Heidel added nine assists and nine digs.

Jalyn Stout led all hitters with 13 kills for CCU and rounded out a double-double with 13 assists.

In the opening set, UNCW closed to within three points late several times, including 20-17, but the Chants held off the Seahawks for a 25-19 win.

UNCW again pushed the Chants in the second set following a kill by Marnie Ursem that narrowed CCU's lead to 20-19. Coastal, however, rattled off the next three points to take a 23-19 lead on its way to a 25-21 final.

In the final set, CCU broke a 10-all deadlock with a 5-1 run and closed out the match with a 25-22 win.

The Seahawks return to conference play on Oct. 24-25 at defending Coastal Athletic Association champion College of Charleston.
