Forbes, Young Lead UNCW In Loss At CofC

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Hannah Forbes had 12 kills and Lauren Young added 10, but UNCW fell in four sets (25-21, 16-25, 14-25, 22-25) at Charleston on Friday in Coastal Athletic Association volleyball action.

The Cougars ran their record to 8-3 in CAA play and 14-7 overall. UNCW fell to 2-7 and 3-16.

The Seahawks opened the match with a 25-22 win behind four kills from Forbes. With the set tied at 20-all, a CofC service error ignited a 4-0 run for UNCW that included a kill from Forbes and an ace from Marnie Ursem.

CofC cruised to wins in sets two and three.

In the final set, CofC held a 22-19 lead, but UNCW drew even with a 3-0 run. Serving for the lead, the Seahawks committed a service error and the Cougars closed out the win with a kill and an ace.

Ursem finished with six kills, five digs, three aces and four total blocks.

CofC's Izzy Marinelli held match-high honors with a career-high 20 kills and Julia Gnida chipped in 13.

The series continues Saturday with a 2 p.m. start time.
