Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Brandon Sans

Seahawks Rally Past Huskies, 80-72

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW men's basketball team built a double-digit second-half lead with a 15-0 run and then withstood a late Northeastern surge to rally past the Huskies, 80-72, before a sold-out Trask Coliseum on Thursday night.

The Seahawks improved to 3-2 in the Coastal Athletic Association with all five league games decided by single digits and are 13-5 overall. The Huskies fell to 10-8 and 2-3 in the circuit.

UNCW's Sean Moore paced the Seahawks in scoring for the second time this season with 15 points to go with six rebounds. Noah Ross contributed 14 points off the bench while Harlan Obioha notched his team-high third double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Donovan Newby provided 10 points to give the Seahawks four in double figures.

Northeastern's LA Pratt scored 20 of his game-high 22 points in the first half while leading scorer Rashad King added 15 of his 20 points in the second half. JB Frankel chipped in 13 points.

It was a game of runs with both teams holding double-digit leads at different points.

UNCW, down 36-30 with 2:36 left before halftime, closed the opening half on a 9-0 run to take a 39-36 advantage into the break. Northeastern took the lead back shortly into the second half with its own nine-point spurt and was ahead 53-48 before the Seahawks made their move.

A Moore slam dunk ignited a 15-0 run by four different players to make it 63-53 with 8:16 to go in the game. Not to go quietly, the Huskies rattled off 14 of the game's next 19 points, including 10 straight, to make it a one-point game, 68-67, with 4:12.

UNCW converted their shots and free throws down the stretch and never surrendered the lead to earn the win.

The Seahawks next host first-place William & Mary, the CAA's lone undefeated team in league play, on Monday at 1 p.m. in a nationally televised contest on CBS Sports Network. The game will be a Teal Out for Seahawk fans.
