WILMINGTON, North Carolina – A strong second half capped by a 67th-minute goal by sophomore Viktoria Hankova contributed to a 2-2 decision for the UNCW women's soccer team vs. High Point on a rainy Sunday afternoon at the UNCW Soccer Stadium.
The Seahawks stand 2-3-2 in 2024 and are unbeaten in three of four contests at home. The Panthers are 2-4-1 this season.
UNCW began to overcome a multi-goal deficit to earn a result for the first time since the 2021 season shortly after HPU's Peyton Gilmore's first goal of the season put the Panthers ahead in the 42nd minute.
UNCW responded almost immediately after Gilmore's score with an Ayanna Parker goal assisted by freshman Allie Planeaux to slice the lead in half and give the Panthers a 2-1 lead at the intermission
The Seahawks, who outshot the Panthers 8-3 after halftime and 12-11 in the game, tied the game midway through the second half on Hankova's first goal of the season. The former All-CAA Rookie performer found the lead pass from graduate student Lexi Vegoda for the equalizer.
UNCW next travels to VCU for a 6 p.m. contest on Thursday.
