RICHMOND, Virginia – VCU used a strong second half to turn back the UNCW women's soccer team, 3-0, in the Seahawks' non-conference finale at Sports Backers Stadium on Thursday evening.
The Rams improved their record to 1-6 while the Seahawks dipped 2-4-2 ahead of Coastal Athletic Association play next week.
All three of VCU's goals came midway through the second half after both teams were scoreless at the intermission.
A penalty kick by the Rams' Kanna Matsuhisa represented the game's first goal in the 60th minute. It was followed five minutes later with a score by Milica Bulatovic on a cross by Greta Kraszula.
Matsuhisa added a second score in the 67th minute to make it 3-0.
UNCW recorded a season-high 14 shots, including 10 in the second half. Senior Emily Bowbliss fashioned a career-high four shot attempts.
UNCW opens league play at home vs. Campbell next Thursday, Sept. 19, at 7 p.m.
