Gyamfi, Hefele Lead Second Half Rally at ETSU

JOHNSON CITY, Tennessee – The UNCW men's soccer team utilized second-half goals by Osei Gyamfi and Josef Hefele to battle back and earn a 2-2 draw at East Tennessee State on Saturday afternoon at Summers-Taylor Stadium.

The Seahawks remain unbeaten this season with a 1-0-3 mark. The Buccaneers stand 1-2-2 in 2024.

UNCW erased a 2-0 halftime deficit to earn a draw for the first time since 2010 via Gyamfi's first career goal and Hefele's first score of the season within seven minutes of one another.

Gyamfi found the back of the net in the 53rd minute to put the Seahawks on the board via the assist from redshirt freshman Ryan Lee.

Roughly six-and-a-half minutes later, Hefele provided the UNCW equalizer on helpers from Gyamfi and junior Ethan Newsome to neutralize an early 2-0 ETSU lead.

The Seahawks outshot the Buccaneers 15-7, including a sterling 13-4 margin in the second half. UNCW has recorded double-digit shot totals in three of its four games.

ETSU's Henrique Cruz (10:10) and Gabriel Ramos (20:06) both found the back of the net early to give the host Buccaneers a 2-0 lead after the first 45 minutes of play.

The Seahawks return home on Tuesday to play former Coastal Athletic Association rival George Mason at 7 p.m.
