Volleyhawks Sweep Gardner-Webb, 3-0

WILMINGTON, N.C. – A'siya Magazine and Grace Melnick held team-high honors with nine kills apiece as UNCW swept visiting Gardner-Webb, 3-0, on Friday at Hanover Hall in the Hampton Inn University Invitational.

The Seahawks halted a modest two-match skid to even their record at 3-3 while the Bulldogs dipped to 2-9.

In the final set, GW had set point twice at 24-22, but UNCW scored the final four points to win the set and seal the sweep. Following a Bulldog hitting error, Grace Melnick tied the match with a solo block. Magazine and Liv Womble closed out the win with back-to-back kills.

Alexa Brezeault added eight kills for the Seahawks, who hit .240 on the match.

Sydney Marshall fashioned a double-double with 15 assists and 12 digs.

GW's Isabel Sandstrum collected a match-high 10 kills.

The Seahawks conclude the weekend with a 4 p.m. start against Charlotte on Saturday.
