Seahawks Blank Eagles in Home Opener

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Freshman goalkeeper Viktor Engh fashioned nine saves in his first career shutout as the UNCW men's soccer team blanked American 1-0 on Friday night at the UNCW Soccer Stadium.

The Seahawks (1-0-1) totaled 18 shots from 10 players to best the Eagles (0-2-1) in their home opener.

Redshirt freshman Ryan Lee's first career goal came off a header from a perfectly placed long service from junior Jack Clarkson to to give UNCW a 1-0 lead it would not surrender.

Engh's nine saves anchored a Seahawk defense that withstood 13 American shot attempts.

Freshmen Jacob Coates (4) and Sune Aarup (3) combined for seven shots for the Seahawks.

UNCW remains home for a Monday tilt vs. South Florida at 7 p.m.
