UNCW Blanks Coastal Carolina, 2-0

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Goals by UNCW's Kayla Burroughs and Lexi Vegoda propelled the Seahawks to a 2-0 women's soccer shutout win over Coastal Carolina on Wednesday night at the UNCW Soccer Stadium.

The Seahawks (2-0-1) ran their unbeaten streak to three games before 1,004 fans. The Chanticleers dipped to 0-1-1 on the young season.

Making her first start of the season, Burroughs wasted little time with a chip over Coastal goalkeeper Vivienne Carr on a pass to the left of the box from Vegoda seven minutes into the contest.

Vegoda added an insurance score in the 71st minute after she corralled the rebound from her saved penalty kick and booted the second chance into the back of the net for her first goal as a Seahawk.

UNCW recorded six of its nine shots after halftime while the Seahawk backline limited Coastal to only four shot attempts.

Seahawk netminder Morgan Hobbs fashioned her first career shutout with three saves.

UNCW is back in action on Sunday at Old Dominion at 1 p.m. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
