Sobataka Sends UNCW To Winner's Bracket Final

Seahawks to play Friday at 10 a.m. versus Delaware

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Mary Sobataka's solo home run in the top of the seventh inning propelled UNCW to a 2-1 win over top-seeded Campbell and into the winner's bracket final of the Coastal Athletic Association on Thursday at Boseman Field.

The Seahawks improved to 31-20 with the win while the Camels dropped to 34-20-1. UNCW will play the winner of Stony Brook/Delaware on Friday at 10 a.m.

Sobataka provided the winning margin when she led off the top of the seventh with her fifth homer of the season off a 2-2 offering from losing pitcher Isabella Smith (23-7).

For the second straight game, the Seahawks ended the game with a double play. With runners on second and third and one out, second baseman Tayler Vitola flagged down a pop-up into short rightfield and gunned down the potential tying run at the plate to end the game.

Emily Winstead (13-6) went the distance for the Seahawks for the ninth time this season. The righthander allowed a run on six hits and a walk and struck out eight.

Jentri Meadows collected two hits for UNCW coming off the bench.

Skylar Stockton doubled in the first run of the game as UNCW grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning.

Alliyah Swiney and Charlie Montgomery fueled the Camels with three and two hits, respectively.

Tyra Parker added two hits for Campbell and tied the game with an RBI single in the third inning.
