UNCW Powers Past Bucs With Four Homers

CHARLESTON, S.C. – UNCW slammed four home runs and the bullpen allowed just two runs, one earned, as the Seahawks powered past Charleston Southern, 12-5, on Tuesday at Nielson Field.

The Seahawks extended their winning streak to six games and improved their record to 33-16. The Bucs, meanwhile, dropped to 18-27 with the home loss and saw their losing skid grow to four straight.

UNCW plated five runs in the third inning to break a 2-all deadlock. Bryan Arendt's bases-clearing three-run double fueled the outburst that gave UNCW a 7-2 lead.

Trevor Marsh finished with three hits, including his career-high 13th home run. Tanner Thach homered twice and Alec DeMartino connected on his fifth homer of the season.

Case Stroup, the first of five relievers, picked up the win to move to 3-1.

Brock Kuehler had a two-hit game for the Bucs. Sam Lowe added his second home run of the season.

Brett Gastman (0-4) took the loss.

The Seahawks host Hofstra in the first of a three-game Coastal Athletic Association series on Friday at 6 p.m.
