UNCW Opens Series With 13-3 Win Over Hofstra

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Jacob Shafer allowed two runs over seven innings and UNCW continued its slugging ways with four home runs as the Seahawks beat visiting Hofstra, 13-3, in Coastal Athletic Association baseball on Friday at Brooks Field.

The Seahawks posted their seventh straight win, tying a season-high, and raised their record to 34-16 overall and 18-4 in the conference. The Pride fell to 20-29 and 10-12 in the league.

Shafer surrendered five hits, walked two and struck out four while recording 13 groundball outs to improve to 4-5 on the season.

Homering for the Seahawks were Trevor Marsh, Tanner Thach, Alec DeMartino and Bryan Arendt.

Thach moved into a tie with Casey Golden (2014-17) and Bryan Britt(1994-96) for UNCW's career home run record with his 40th homer.

Dylan Palmer held game-high honors with three hits for Hofstra.

Michael O'Hanlon (5-4) took the loss, allowing eight runs, seven earned, over 2.2 innings.

Every starter in the UNCW lineup had a hit.

The second game of the series is Saturday at 6 p.m. The Seahawks will honor their seniors prior to the game.
