How Sweep It Is!!! UNCW clinches CAA Tourney Berth

Thach becomes single-season home run record holder

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW completed a Coastal Athletic Association sweep of Campbell on Sunday with a 14-7 win at Brooks Field as Tanner Thach became the program's single-season home run record holder.

The Seahawks improved to 32-16 with their fifth straight win and clinched a conference tournament berth with a 17-4 league mark. The Camels, meanwhile, dropped their sixth consecutive outing to drop to 27-19 and 8-13 in the CAA.

Thach broke the all-time mark of 21 with a three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth. He lined a 1-0 offering over the wall in left center for the record last equaled by Casey Golden in 2017. He finished the day with three hits, scored four runs and knocked in four.

Trevor Marsh, Jac Croom and John Newton all finished with two hits for the Seahawks, who took advantage of 12 walks and a program-record-tying six hit batters. Newton and Brock Wills both drove in three runs.

RJ Sales (9-2) won his fourth straight start, going six innings and allowing two runs, one earned.

Dalen Thompson and Reed Stallman paced Campbell with two hits apiece. Stallman belted his 12th homer of the season leading off the second inning.

Starter Nate Brittain (0-3) was tagged with the loss.

UNCW is the only program in the CAA to earn a berth to all 38 conference tournaments.

For Campbell, it was the first time since 2022 that it was swept in a three-game series and the first time since 2017 it was swept in conference play. That season the Camels were swept by Radford in Big South Conference play.

UNCW visits Charleston Southern on May 7 in its final non-conference road game of the season. Game time is set for 5 p.m.
