Diamond Hawks Clinch Series, Remain Tied For CAA Lead

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW's bullpen combined for seven innings, allowing one run and striking out 12 as the Seahawks rallied past Campbell, 7-4, to clinch the Coastal Athletic Association series on Saturday at Brooks Field.

The Seahawks remain tied for first place with the College of Charleston at 16-4 and raised their overall record to 31-16. The Camels, who have dropped their five outings, slumped to 27-18 and 8-12 in the league.

Trailing 4-1 in the bottom of the fifth, UNCW plated four runs without the aid of a hit. The Seahawks drew five walks and Campbell threw a pair of wild pitches to give UNCW a 5-4 lead. Alec DeMartino drew a bases-loaded walk and Aiden Evans scored on a wild pitch. DeMartino would also score later in the inning on a wild pitch and Brock Will's ground ball out to first scored the go-ahead run.

Trevor Marsh led the UNCW lineup with a pair of hits, including his 12th home run of the season, tying his career high.

Baker Cox (1-0), the second reliever of six used by the Seahawks, earned his first win as a Seahawk.

Luke Craig recorded a four-out save. It was his second of the series and fifth of the season. Earlier this week, he also earned the win against #20 NC State.

The Camels jumped in front, 3-0, in the top of the second using the long ball. Dylan Koontz led off the frame with his fifth roundtripper of the season and Braeden O'Shaughnessy belted a two-run shot later in the inning.

Reliever Garrett Kangas (0-1) took the loss, allowing one run and walking the only two batters he faced.

Campbell pitchers issued 10 free passes on the evening.

The series concludes with a 2 p.m. start on Sunday.
