UNCW Cruises Past Georgia Tech, 9-0

The Seahawks will play Georgia at 6 p.m. on Saturday

ATHENS, Ga. –RJ Sales scattered three hits over 7.1 innings and Bryan Arendt belted a second-inning grand slam as UNCW cruised past Georgia Tech, 9-0, in game two of the NCAA Athens Regional on Friday at Foley Field.

The Seahawks (40-19) take on top-seeded Georgia (40-15) on Saturday at 6 p.m. The Yellowjackets (31-24), meanwhile, will face Army in an elimination game at noon.

Arendt gave the Seahawks a 4-0 lead with a grand slam in the second inning off losing pitcher Brett Thomas (4-2). The Seahawks loaded the bases against the righthander when Brock Wills was hit by a pitch. Arendt followed Wills with his ninth homer of the season, coming off a 1-2 offering.

Arendt led the Seahawks with a program regional record-tying five runs batted in. Trevor Marsh collected two hits as his hitting streak stretched to 16 games. Kevin Jones added a two-run single in a five-run eighth and Jac Croom doubled in two runs in that inning.

Sales earned the win to move to 11-3 after tossing 7.1 shutout innings. Sales allowed three hits, walked four and struck out six. He recorded 13 ground ball outs.

Drew Burress, Bobby Zmarziak, and Payton Green had hits for Georgia Tech.

The Seahawks posted their eighth 40-win season and snapped a five-game losing streak in the NCAA regionals.

Sales combined with Luke Craig and Baker Cox to record UNCW's first shutout in regional play.
