Seahawks Victorious on Senior Day

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Senior Carrigan Ewers tossed her first career complete game as UNCW won the Coastal Athletic Association softball series with a 4-3 win vs. Monmouth at Boseman Field on Saturday afternoon.

The Seahawks (28-20, 17-9 CAA) honored six players – Ewers, Morgan Britt, Jentri Meadows, Mary Sobataka, Skylar Stockton and Tayler Vitola in the victory over the Hawks (18-31, 10-16 CAA).

Britt, Stockton and Sobataka combined for four of UNCW's six hits, including Stockton's go-ahead inside-the-park home run in the bottom of the sixth after Monmouth tied the game in the top of the fourth.

Both teams scored runs in the second before the Seahawks went up 3-1 in the third when Stockton's first hit of the game scored pinch runner Ava Tsiouplis. Stockton took second on the throw home when Monmouth attempted to nail Stockton at second. The throw sailed into center field and allowed the outfielder to race home to go up 3-1.

Ewers (2-7) scattered eight hits and stranded nine Hawks on base in the win.

Monmouth's Ana Rodriguez (4-6) tossed six innings on 85 pitches.

UNCW and Monmouth close out the series and regular season on Saturday at 1 p.m.
