Softball Secures No. 4 Seed for CAA Championships

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW junior Kara Hammock recorded her 12th complete game of the season as the Seahawks edged Monmouth, 2-1, in Saturday's regular season softball finale at Boseman Field.

The Seahawks (29-20, 18-9 CAA) secured the No. 4 seed in next week's Coastal Athletic Association Softball Championship to be played at Boseman Field. UNCW will play No. 5 Elon on May 8 at Noon.

Saturday's win over the Hawks (18-33, 10-17 CAA) also established a new program record for conference wins in a season with 18, breaking the previous record set just last year.

Hammock (14-5) polished off one of the league's best seasons to lower her season ERA to a career-low 1.64. The right-hander has set new career highs in wins (14), games started (18), complete games (12) and innings pitched (127.2).

UNCW spotted Hammock a 1-0 lead in the third inning when Mackenzie Amodeo raced home from third base while the defense was preoccupied with a rundown of Tayler Vitola between first and second.

Freshman Cassidy Relay bunted home Vitola in the fifth to add an insurance run, 2-0. It proved worthwhile when Monmouth's Bri Lawson singled home third baseman Savannah Simons in the second inning.

Tickets for the 2024 CAA Championships are on sale now at UNCWSports.com/BuyTickets. All Game Passes are $50 per person while Individual Day Tickets are $14 per person. Games are scheduled to start at Noon each day from May 8-11 with the Championship Game occurring next Saturday.
