Diamond Hawks Win Eighth CAA Championship Title

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW claimed its eighth Coastal Athletic Association Championship title overall, and second straight, on Sunday following a 6-4 win over top-seeded College of Charleston at Brooks Field.

The Seahawks carry a record of 39-19 into next the NCAA regionals while the Cougars dropped to 41-14 with the loss.

CofC held a 4-1 lead through three innings before the Seahawks cut it to a one-run deficit with single suns in the fourth and fifth innings. Trevor Marsh, the Tournament Most Outstanding Player, delivered a two-run single in the seventh inning to give the Seahawks a 5-4 lead.

With his MOP honor, Marsh became the seventh Seahawk to earn the accolade.

Trace Baker (1-0), an All-Tournament selection, gave the Seahawks a lift with a career-high six innings of one-run, three-hit relief. Luke Craig closed out the game for his seventh save.

Marsh finished with two hits and three runs batted in. All-Tournament honorees Jac Croom, Aidan Evans, and Tanner Thach all added two hits and Brock Wills chipped in a pair of hits and two runs batted in.

Avery Neaves led CofC at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a double and his 15th home run of the season.

Alex Lyon (4-3) suffered the loss in relief.

With its eighth conference tournament championship, UNCW passed East Carolina for the all-time lead. The Seahawks also went back-to-back for the second time, the last coming in 2018 and 2019. The championship was also UNCW's first at Brooks Field since 2006.
