UNCW Thunders Past Delaware, 10-6

The Seahawks play Friday at 7 p.m. against the College of Charleston

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW wiped out an early deficit with a six-run fifth inning and Seahawk pitchers struck out 18 batters in a 10-6 win over Delaware on Friday at the Coastal Athletic Association baseball tournament at Brooks Field.

The Seahawks (37-19) advance to the winner's bracket final on Friday against top-seeded College of Charleston. The first pitch is set for 7 p.m. The Blue Hens (30-25), meanwhile, will face the winner of the Hofstra and William & Mary game at 3 p.m.

UNCW rallied with six runs in the fifth to overcome a 5-2 deficit. Kevin Jones doubled to right center with the bases loaded to give the Seahawks an 8-5 lead. Trevor Marsh and Brock Wills added RBI singles and John Newton plated a run with a sac fly in the outburst.

Leading the hit brigade for the Seahawks were Jac Croom, Tanner Thach, and Marsh each had three hits while Alec DeMartino added two hits. Thach and DeMartino both homered.

Led by Case Stroup's career-high eight strikeouts, UNCW piled up 18 strikeouts, marking its second-highest total of the season. Stroup earned the win to improve to 4-1.

Aaron Graeber, Chris Dengler, and Tyler Leach all had two hits apiece for the Blue Hens. Graeber connected on a home run in a four-run fourth. Eric Ludman and Aidan Kane also homered.
