WILMINGTON, North Carolina -- UNCW men's basketball Head Coach Takayo Siddle and staff have finalized the Seahawk roster for the 2024-25 season with the addition of experienced guards Greedy Williams and Elijah Jamison as well as incoming freshman post player Makoi Mabor Marier.
"My staff deserves all the credit for tirelessly working to put together what we think is a competitive group of high-character guys," said Siddle.
This offseason the UNCW staff worked to restock the roster by signing five players out of the transfer portal, one junior college player and one high school player. Williams, Jamison and Marier are the most recent signees that round out the 2024-25 roster.
Williams was a 2023-24 NJCAA All-American last season for Chipola College in Marianna, Fla. The 6-5 point guard averaged 11.8 points and shot 42.9 percent from the field while leading Chipola to its 28th Panhandle Conference Championship, 18th NJCAA Region VIII/FCSAA State Championship, and 19th NJCAA Tournament appearance.
The Montgomery, Ala., product dished out 5.2 apg and reached double figures 20 times, including a pair of double-doubles in his last six games.
"Greedy was one of the best junior college guards in the country at one of the best junior colleges in the country," said Siddle. "He played for a tremendous coach in Donnie Tyndall and has a great basketball pedigree as his dad starred for the University of Alabama in the late 90's.
"He brings great size for the position, a high IQ, high-level play-making skills and he is a proven winner at every level. We are beyond excited to have him as a part of our family."
Jamison, a native of Louisburg, N.C., returns to his home state following two seasons at Milwaukee, where he played all 69 games with 47 starts for the Panthers. The 6-3 guard averaged 8.9 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.7 assists last season and surpassed double-digits 14 times with a pair of 20-point efforts.
A Horizon League All-Freshman Team after the 2022-23 campaign, Jamison attended Milwaukee after being one of the most prolific prep scorers in North Carolina High School history. Jamison graduated as the state of North Carolina's fifth all-time prep scorer with over 2,600 points between Liberty Heights Athletic Institute and Louisburg High School.
"Elijah is someone I've known for a very long time and someone I've always respected. In his two years at Milwaukee, he played a key role in helping them win 42 games while making 47 starts," said Siddle. "Elijah is one of the most tenacious competitors I've come across in my career. He couples that with a skill set that was much needed for our roster. With his ability to move on and off the ball, he will play a vital role in our team's success."
The Seahawks bolstered their post presence with the signing of Marier, a physical 6-11 forward from Gastonia, N.C. Marier averaged 17.3 points, 10.2 rebounds and 2.3 blocks at Gaston Christian Academy last season. He ranked within the top 100 players in the nation with 21 double-doubles, the seventh-highest mark in North Carolina, according to MaxPreps.
Marier, the No. 11 rated prep player in North Carolina per On3.com, helped Gaston Christian to the NCISAA 3A State Championship Game and was a 2024 NCISAA 3A All-State selection.
Originally from South Sudan, Marier participated in the NBA's Basketball Without Borders program in 2022 in Cairo, Egypt.
"Makoi is a flat-out steal for our program. Along with tons of mid-major offers, we had to compete with numerous Power Five programs to lure him to UNCW," said Siddle. "At 6-11, Makoi is a very versatile player who we can play at multiple positions. Having a young phenom in our program is only going to add another level of competitiveness and we couldn't be more excited about this young man."
The formidable trio completes an active spring for Siddle and the coaching staff. Jamison and Williams will join fellow transfers Joshua Corbin (Robert Morris), Harlan Obioha (Niagara), Bo Montgomery (Holy Cross) and Sean Moore (Farleigh Dickinson) as well as the first-year Marier as new Seahawks for 2024-25.
