Seahawks Hand Wolfpack Fifth Straight Loss, 5-4

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Aiden Evans and Trevor Marsh had two hits apiece and the UNCW bullpen allowed two runs over the final 6.1 innings as the Seahawks knocked off NC State, 5-4, in college baseball action on Tuesday at Brooks Field.

The Seahawks ran their record to 20-13 overall and 14-7 at home. The Wolfpack, meanwhile, slid to 18-12 with their fifth straight loss.

UNCW built a 5-2 lead through six innings and held off NC State late. With the tying run on third and the go-ahead run on second in the top of the ninth, Josh Hogue lined a ball to Kevin Jones at shortstop. Jones deflected the ball and caught it on the way down to end the game.

Evans scored a run and drove one in at the top of the Seahawk order. Marsh doubled and homered, his seventh of the season, for UNCW.

Case Stroup (1-0) earned the win with 2.1 innings of one-hit, shutout baseball. Cody Benton recorded the save.

NCSU's Alec Makarewicz homered from both sides of the plate and finished with four hits and four runs batted in. Garrett Pennington added two hits.

Hollis Fanning took the loss for NC State to drop to 2-1.

The Seahawks wrap up their homestand this weekend with three Coastal Athletic Association rival Towson. The series kicks off with a 6 p.m. start on Friday.
