Britt's Big Day Helps UNCW Sweep Charleston

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Right fielder Morgan Britt's two-hit, four-RBI day keyed an 8-3 win to complete UNCW softball's Coastal Athletic Association sweep over Charleston on Sunday at Boseman Field.

The Seahawks (21-15, 11-4 CAA) picked up their third conference sweep of 2024 and maintained a three-way tie for second place in the league standings with Campbell and Hofstra. The Cougars (8-26, 2-13 CAA) dropped their eighth straight contest.

UNCW erupted for six second-inning runs to erase an early 1-0 deficit. Britt's two-run double was followed by Mary Sobataka's RBI triple to cap the four-hit inning in which the Seahawks sent 11 batters to the plate.

Britt, who has eight multi-hit games this season, again drove in two runs in the bottom of the sixth that got back a two-RBI single by Charleston's Mia Dittoe in the third inning.

Senior second baseman Tayler Vitola pushed her on-base streak to seven games with a two-hit effort of her town.

Junior Emily Winstead (9-4) earned her third win of the week with four scoreless innings in relief of starter Carrigan Ewers. The right-handed duo worked around 11 Cougars hits.

Charleston's Payton Lemire (4-7) was tagged for six runs, five earned, and issued four walks in 1.2 innings.

The Seahawks will continue league play next weekend at North Carolina A&T.
