Seahawks Finish Sweep Of Wolfpack

UNCW knocks off NC State 5-4 in 10 innings

RALEIGH, N.C. – Trevor Marsh's two-out double to the centerfield wall scored Tanner Thach with the go-ahead run as 22nd-ranked UNCW topped 20th-ranked NC State, 5-4, to complete a sweep of the home-and-home series on Tuesday at Doak Field.

UNCW earned its third win against a ranked team and improved to 29-16 while the Wolfpack dropped to 25-17.

The series sweep was the first for the Seahawks against the Wolfpack since 2010 and the first win in Raleigh since 2011.

In the UNCW top of the 10th, Thach doubled into the leftfield corner with one out. He moved to third a ground ball to the right side to set the scene for Marsh. With a 1-2 count, Marsh lined a double over the centerfield and to the base of the wall for his second double of the game.

Marsh, who finished with two runs batted in, was joined by Kevin Jones with a two-hit game.

Luke Craig (4-0) earned the win with four innings of one-hit, shutout relief.

Jacob Cozart homered twice for the Wolfpack, who led 4-1 after five innings.

Derek Smith was saddled with the loss to dip to 3-1.

The Seahawks return to Coastal Athletic Association play this weekend when host conference newcomer Campbell. The series opens with a 6 p.m. start on Friday at Brooks Field.
