WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW right fielder Morgan Britt extended her season-long reached base streak to 11 games, but Hofstra used a four-run fifth inning on its way to a 6-1 win over the Seahawks in Easter Sunday softball action at Boseman Field.
The Pride moved to 10-17 and 8-4 in the Coastal Athletic Association with the sweep. The Seahawks stand 17-15 and 8-4 in the league.
Hofstra left-hander Julia Apsel (9-5) collected her third win of the weekend in her five-inning effort. The southpaw struck out five and combined with reliever Anna Butler to strand 11 Seahawks on base.
UNCW senior Carrigan Ewers (2-5) took the loss in 3.1 innings of work in which she struck out a pair and allowed two runs.
Britt collected her first of two hits in the third inning when she roped an RBI double off the top of the left field wall to score senior Tayler Vitola and give UNCW a brief 1-0 lead.
Hofstra, who had multi-hit days from Becca Vaillancourt and Aliya Catanzarita, pushed two runners across in the fourth to take the lead before it sent nine batters to the plate in the fifth that resulted in three hits and four runs to break the game open.
The Seahawks travel to North Carolina on Wednesday for a 5 p.m. first pitch.
