Diamond Hawks Move To 6-0 In CAA Standings

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Led by Kevin Jones, John Newton and Jac Croom, all with three hits and a home run, UNCW rounded out a Coastal Athletic Association series sweep at North Carolina A&T with a 14-6 win at War Memorial Stadium.

With the sweep, UNCW improves to 17-11 on the season and 6-0 in the CAA, its best start in conference play since 2008. The Aggies, who dropped their fourth consecutive outing, fell to 17-10 and 2-4.

The Seahawks exploded for seven runs in the top of the sixth to take a 14-5 lead on the Aggies, who had scored twice in the previous half inning. Jones belted a grand slam and Tanner Thach homered to right with two on to close out the scoring.

Jones finished the game with a career-high five runs batted in and Croom scored three runs.

Cole Benton (2-0) earned the win with two shutout innings.

Chet Sikes had three hits for the Aggies while Devon Rodriquez singled twice and knocked in three runs.

Starter Jake Delisi (3-2) surrendered six runs on seven hits in 1.2 innings.
