UNCW Shuts Down Aggies In Series-Clinching Win

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Tanner Thach had three hits, including his 14th homer of the season, and the UNCW bullpen combined for five innings of shutout baseball as the Seahawks topped North Carolina A&T, 7-2, to win the weekend series on Saturday at War Memorial Stadium.

With the series win, UNCW's sixth of the season, the Seahawks raised their record to 16-11 overall and 5-0 in the Coastal Athletic Association. The Aggies, meanwhile, dipped to 17-9 and 2-3 in the CAA.

Thach's 14th homer of the season broke a 2-all deadlock in the fifth inning. Thach finished with three hits and raised his average to .369.

Kevin Novobilsky collected two hits and knocked in three runs. He delivered a two-run single in the eighth to give UNCW a 5-2 lead.

Bromley Thornton and Kevin Jones added two hits apiece.

Luke Craig (2-0) struck a season-high six over three innings of one-hit relief for UNCW.

Diego Barrett (1-2) was saddled with the loss after allowing three runs, one earned, over five innings.

TJ Ash had two hits to lead the Aggies.

The series concludes on Sunday with a 1 p.m. start.
