UNCW Finishes Off CAA Sweep Of Rival ELon

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Trevor Marsh, Tanner Thach and Kevin Jones collected three hits apiece as UNCW finished off a three-game Coastal Athletic Association baseball series sweep of visiting Elon on Sunday with a 10-5 victory at Brooks Field.

The Seahawks improved to 14-10 and 3-0 while the Phoenix slumped to 9-14 and 0-3 in the league.

Elon grabbed a 3-0 lead in the top of the first on a three-run homer by Will Vergantino, but the Seahawks answered with three in the bottom of the inning. UNCW added a run in the second and two more in the third to grab a 6-4 lead it would never lose.

Marsh raised his batting average to .356 with his three hits, including his fifth homer of the season. Thach, who extended his hitting streak to seven games, and Jones also homered.

Zane Taylor (2-0) tied his career-high with nine strikeouts over 5.1 innings. Connor Kane recorded his third save of the season, going the final two innings.

Ryan Sprock, who took the loss to fall to 0-1 on the season, had two hits and homered for the Phoenix. Vergantino added two hits.

The Seahawks visit nationally-ranked East Carolina on Mar. 26 for a 6 p.m. start.
