UNCW Clinches Fourth Seed At CAA Tournament

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW's Shykeim Phillips scored a team-high 17 points as UNCW knocked off visiting Towson, 75-64, on Senior Day before a sold-out Trask Coliseum on Saturday.

The Seahawks (21-9, 12-6 CAA) clinched the fourth seed in the Coastal Athletic Association tournament and the double-bye that comes with it. The Tigers head into the tournament as the fifth seed with a record of 18-13 and 11-7.

UNCW grabbed a 47-46 lead on a three-pointer from Donovan Newby with 8:53 remaining in the second half. The Seahawks extended that lead behind Maleeck Harden-Hayes, who scored six points during an 8-0 run that gave UNCW a 60-50 lead with 5:43 left.

Joining Phillips in double digits were Trazarien White with 16 and Harden-Hayes with 15.

Towson's Charles Thompson poured in 17 points and grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds before being ejected in the final minute of the game following a flagrant 2 foul.

Christian May added 11 points for the Tigers, who held a 39-24 advantage in rebounding.

The Seahawks forced 19 Tiger turnovers and converted them into 23 points.
