Seahawks Sweep CAA Series vs. Elon

Seahawks match Season-High with 13 Hits

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Shortstop Mary Sobataka hit a pair of doubles and drove in four runs to help UNCW sweep Elon with an 8-3 Coastal Athletic Association softball result at Boseman Field on Sunday afternoon.

The Seahawks improved to 15-9 overall and are a perfect 6-0 in league play after sweeping the first two CAA weekends. The Phoenix dropped to 8-18 and are 3-3 in the circuit.

Junior Kara Hammock (8-3) earned the win in five innings of work while freshman Peyton Eckert completed the final two innings.

UNCW matched their season-high with 13 hits as Sobataka, who pushed her reached safe streak to 17 games, was one of five Seahawks to collect multi-hit games, highlighted by junior Lauren Cope's second three-hit effort of the season. Morgan Britt, Tayler Vitola and Cassidy Relay also added two hits each.

Cope drove in the first run in the first inning with a single off the glove of Elon pitcher Meredith Wells (3-4). UNCW followed two innings later with three runs on Sobataka's first double and a fielder's choice brought in another to make it 4-0.

The Seahawks added a run in the fourth and then erased a three-run sixth-inning for Elon with three of their own in the bottom frame to secure the win.

UNCW travels to nationally-ranked Duke on Wednesday for a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
