Baseball Finishes Sweep With Ninth-Inning Dramatics

Bryn Arendt ties the game in the bottom of the ninth, Marsh wins it

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Down to its last strike with two outs in the ninth, UNCW rallied for two runs to clip visiting Saint Joseph's, 4-3, to finish off a non-conference sweep on Sunday at Brooks Field.

The Seahawks improved to 9-7 with the win while the Hawks dropped to 5-8.

With two out in the bottom of the ninth, UNCW's Bryan Arendt worked a 12-pitch at-bat before homering on a 1-2 offering to not only tie the game for the Seahawks but also break up a no-hit bid by the Hawks.

The two-out magic continued as Bromley Thornton drew a walk one batter later and Jayson Arendt followed with an infield single. A hit batter loaded the bases for Trevor Marsh who singled to the leftside to score the winning run.

Connor Marshburn (3-0) was credited with the win.

Collin Yabonski (2-2) took the loss in relief for SJU.

Hawk starter Domenic Picone and reliever Matt McShane combined for 8.2 no-hit innings and 16 strikeouts.

The Seahawks conclude their homestand on Mar. 12, with a 6 p.m. start against nationally-ranked East Carolina.
