Seahawks Blitzes Drexel To Move Into Conference Lead

UNCW uses a 19-2 second half run on its way to a 75-56 win at Trask

WILMINGTON N.C. – KJ Jenkins' season-high 24 points, fueled by a career-best seven three-pointers made, led UNCW to a 75-56 win over Coastal Athletic Association leader Drexel before a sold-out Trask Coliseum on Thursday.

The Seahawks, who are now 17-6 on the season, pushed their conference record to 8-3 with the home win and gained a share of first place in the league. The Dragons, who have now lost eight straight games at Trask, dropped to 15-9 overall and 8-3 in the CAA.

Joining Jenkins in double figures were Trazarien White with 15, Donovan Newby added 13 and Shykeim Phillips had 12.

Jamie Bergens paced Drexel with 16 points off the bench and Justin Moore added 11.

UNCW broke the game open with a 19-2 run over a seven-minute span of the second half to take a 66-45 lead with 3:31 left in the game. Seven different players scored during the outburst.

Drexel carried a 29-28 lead into the intermission behind 10 points from Bergens. Kobe Magee gave the Dragons the lead with a jumper with 47 seconds remaining in the half.

The Seahawks head to Hampton for a 2 p.m. start against the Pirates on Saturday.

Notes: UNCW recorded its fifth straight sellout … Newby had 10 of his points and all four of his assists in the second half as UNCW outscored the Dragons, 47-27 … The Seahawks are now 8-0 at home and have a record of 15-2 when scoring 75+ points … UNCW finished with eight turnovers on the night, but just one in the second half.
