UNCW Blows Past Hampton, 95-65

HAMPTON, Va. – KJ Jenkins' 16 points led five Seahawks in double-figure scoring as UNCW shot its way past Hampton on Saturday in a 95-65 win in Coastal Athletic Association action at the HU Convocation Center.

UNCW extended its winning streak to four with the win and raised its records to 18-6 overall and 9-3 in the CAA. Hampton, meanwhile, dropped to 5-20 and remained winless in the conference at 0-12.

UNCW finished 38-for-63 (60.3%) from the field.

Also finishing in double figures were Trazarien White and Donovan Newby with 14 points apiece while Shykeim Phillips added 13 points and Maleeck Harden-Hayes had 11 in his first appearance since Jan. 14.

Kyrese Mullen held game-high honors with 23 points for Hampton and added nine rebounds.

Phillips missed a double-double, coming up short with a career-high nine assists and no turnovers.

White completed his sixth double-double of the season with 11 rebounds.

White missed a double-double in the first half alone with 12 points and nine rebounds as the Seahawks built a 46-25 lead. The Seahawks shot 65% (20-31) en route to a 21-point lead.

The Seahawks return to Trask Coliseum on Feb. 15 when they host in-state rival North Carolina A&T at 7 p.m.

Notes: UNCW leads the all-time series, 5-1 … The Seahawks committed eight turnovers, but just two in the second half … UNCW turned 16 Hampton turnovers into 24 points.
