Ferrito, Urmuleviciute Lead UNCW Past Hampton, 77-70

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW's Mary Ferrito and Mingaile Urmuleviciute enjoyed career days in the Seahawks' triumphant 77-70 women's basketball victory vs. Hampton on Sunday at Trask Coliseum.

The Seahawks moved to 4-16 overall with a 2-7 Coastal Athletic Association mark in their Play4Kay Game to split the season series against the Lady Pirates, who dropped to 2-17 and 2-7 in the league.

Ferrito (22) and Urmuleviciute (20) combined for 42 points off the bench with both registering career highs. Ferrito, a Wisconsin transfer, filled the stat sheet with six rebounds and four assists while Urmuleviciute's nine rebounds were a team-high along with Evan Miller.

Freshman Kylah Silver contributed 14 points while Miller flirted with a triple-double with nine points and rebounds along with a career-high seven assists.

Hampton's leading scorer Camryn Hill finished with 20 points and fellow starters Ariana Wilkes (14) and Le'Asia Foreman rounded out the Lady Pirates in double-digits scoring.

It was a game of runs in which there were nine lead changes and eight ties. UNCW took a 31-28 lead into halftime and extended to a game-high 12 points, 45-33, with 3:25 left in the third quarter.

Hampton immediately went on a 12-0 run and scored 14 of the third period's last 16 points to enter the fourth quarter tied 47-all.

A 15-2 stretch by the Seahawks pushed their advantage back to double figures, 62-51, with 2:30 to play in the game. The Lady Pirates continued to battle and whittled the deficit down to three points, 69-66, on a Hill trifecta with 37 seconds remaining.

UNCW, however, converted eight free throws in the final 27 seconds, including five by Ferrito, to close out the victory.

The Seahawks are on the road but remain in-state with trips to Campbell (Feb. 9) and Elon (Feb. 11) on the docket next weekend.
