Newby Pours In Career High As UNCW Beats Campbell

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW's Donovan Newby scored a career-high 22 points as the Seahawks held off upset-minded Campbell, 77-74, on Saturday in Coastal Athletic Association men's basketball action at Trask Coliseum.

The Seahawks improved to 7-0 at home this season, 16-6 overall and 7-3 in the CAA. The Camels, meanwhile, slip to 11-12 on the season and 5-5 in the league.

With the win, UNCW extended its home winning streak in the series to 13 dating back to the 1996-97 season.

Newby knocked finished 7-for-15 from the field, including a career-high six three-pointers. Trazarien White posted his fifth double-double of the season with 10 points and a career-high tying 14 rebounds. KJ Jenkins poured in a season-best 20 points and connected on five threes of his own.

Anthony Dell'Orso paced Campbell with 22 points while Elijah Walsh added 18 points and Jasin Smith chipped in 14.

Following a made free throw by Campbell that tied the game at 67-all with 3:28 left in the second half, Newby knocked down a three-pointer from the right side off a feed from White for a 70-67 lead the Seahawks would never lose.

UNCW knocked down 10 three-pointers in the first half en route to a 38-32 halftime lead. Jenkins and Newby led the way with four and three threes, respectively.

The Seahawks host conference-leader Drexel on Feb. 8, at 7 p.m.

Notes: Tonight was UNCW's fourth consecutive sellout … The Seahawks attempted a program-record-tying 40 three-pointers on the night … UNCW improved to 14-2 when scoring 75 or more points … UNCW's33 points from the bench were the most since a 34-point effort in the CAA opener at Drexel (Jan. 4).
