UNCW Overcomes Early Deficit To Knock Off Air Force

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Aiden Evans collected three hits, including two doubles, as UNCW wiped out an early 6-1 deficit for an 11-8 win on Monday over visiting Air Force at Brooks Field.

The Seahawks pushed their record to 5-3 with the win, the third in their last four games. The Falcons saw their modest three-game winning streak halted and fell to 4-4.

Air Force built a 6-1 lead through four and a half innings, but Tanner Thach's grand slam in the bottom of the fifth narrowed the lead to 6-5.

The Seahawks would score twice in the sixth on an AFA throwing error and a bases-loaded walk for a 7-6 lead.

Cole Benton (1-0), the fourth of seventh Seahawk relievers used, picked up the win by striking out the only batter he faced.

Alec DeMartino, Kyle Dobos and Kevin Jones had two hits apiece for the Seahawks.

Ethan Dillinger (0-1) was roughed up in taking the loss, allowing four runs in one inning of work.

Jay Thomason had three hits and drove in four runs. He belted a two-run single in the second inning and a two-run homer in the fourth. Jake Greiving added two hits including a home run in the ninth.

The Seahawks wrap up their homestand on Wednesday with a 4 p.m. start against Liberty.
