Seahawks Take Series With 5-3 Victory

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Aidan Evans collected two hits and Zane Taylor delivered five strong innings on the mound as UNCW earned a series win on Sunday with a 5-3 victory over visiting Princeton at Brooks Field.

The Seahawks improved to 4-3 with the win while the Tigers opened the season at 1-2.

UNCW took advantage of 11 walks issued by the Tigers and six wild pitches in the win.

Taylor (1-0) was credited with the win, allowing just a run on two hits and a walk over five innings. He finished with six strikeouts. Connor Kane notched the save, pitching out of a jam in the eighth inning and then retiring the side in order in the ninth.

John Newton walked twice, was hit twice, scored twice and stole a base for UNCW. Bryan Arendt and Kyle Dobos both had RBI walks with the bases loaded. Dobos drew three walks.

Princeton starter Rich Ferrer-Westrop (0-1) was tagged with the loss, allowing two runs in the first inning on five walks.

Nick DiPietrantonio homered in the first for the Tigers.

UNCW continues its five-game homestand on Monday with a 4 p.m. start against Air Force.
