Cougars Break Away from Seahawks

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Charleston raced out to an early 21-6 lead after the first quarter to sweep the season series over the UNCW women's basketball team, 97-58, on Sunday afternoon at Trask Coliseum.

The Cougars upped their record to 17-6 and remain in third place in the Coastal Athletic Association with a 9-3 league mark. The Seahawks fell to 5-18 and are 3-9 in the conference.

Redshirt freshman Taylor Henderson's 24 points, two off her career-high, represented the 12th time the Charlotte, N.C., native has led UNCW in scoring this season. Freshman Kylah Silver contributed 12 points, her fourth straight double-digit scoring effort, to go with eight rebounds on Homecoming Weekend.

Graduate guard Jenna Annecchiarico scored 18 of her game-high 26 points in the first two quarters for Charleston. The former All-CAA performer was one of four Cougars in double figures along with Alexis Andrews (15), Taryn Barbot (10), Zoe McCrary (11) and Anika McGarity (12).

McCrary also established a new career-high with 16 points for a double-double.

Charleston rattled off the game's first 10 points and built a commanding 19-2 lead with 2:21 left in the opening period to take control early and never looked back.

UNCW embarks on a two-game road trip next weekend with trips to Delaware (Feb. 23) and Drexel (Feb. 25).
