Phillips Lights Up Aggies As Defense Turns It Up

Shykeim had 18 second half points and UNCW allowed one field goal in the final 12:31 of the game

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW's Shykeim Phillips scored 18 of his game-high 24 points in the second half as UNCW clamped down in the second half of its 73-54 win over visiting North Carolina A&T on Thursday at Trask Coliseum.

The Seahawks, who remain tied for the conference lead, improved to 19-6 overall with the fifth straight win and 10-3 in the Coastal Athletic Association. The Aggies, meanwhile, suffered their fourth consecutive loss and dipped to 7-19 and 5-8 in the league.

While Phillips, who also finished with a game-high six assists, did his damage in the second half, UNCW held NC A&T to just one field goal over the final 12:31 of the game. The Aggies were just 1-for-15 during that span.

Camien Shell led the Aggies with 21 points and McKie and Murphy added 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Maleeck Harden-Hayes and KJ Jenkins chipped in 12 points apiece for the Seahawks.

UNCW led 34-33 at the intermission behind nine points, all coming on three-pointers, by Jenkins.

The Seahawks host Elon at 7 p.m. on Saturday on Homecoming Weekend.

Notes: UNCW's 21 points allowed in the second half tied a season-low which was set against Northeastern on Jan. 25 in Boston … Nolan Hodge made his fourth start of the season and finished with seven points and a season-high seven rebounds … UNCW dominated the boards, 40-28.
