UNCW Trio Propels Seahawks Past Phoenix, 60-58

ELON, North Carolina -- The UNCW trio of Kylah Silver, Taylor Henderson and Evan Miller combined for 51 points to help the Seahawks earn a thrilling 60-58 Coastal Athletic Association women's basketball victory over Elon on Sunday afternoon at the Schar Center.

The Seahawks moved to 5-17 and stand 3-8 in the CAA. The Phoenix stumbled to 8-16 with a 4-7 league record.

Freshman Kylah Silver's 18 points were a career-high for the Greenville, N.C. product. Redshirt freshman Taylor Henderson finished with 17 points and her nine rebounds were one shy of her second career double-double. Senior Evan Miller added 16 points.

The trio of Silver, Henderson and Miller shot 55.5 percent (20-of-36) and totaled 26 of the Seahawks' 33 second half points.

UNCW led by as many as 10 points after carrying a 27-24 advantage into halftime before Elon slowly chipped away at their deficit. The Phoenix scored five straight points late in the fourth to claim their highest lead of the game, 55-52, with 3:13 left in the fourth quarter.

The Seahawks then rattled off eight consecutive points, capped by a Henderson running layup, to go up 60-55 with 1:04 remaining.

A long-range three-pointer by Elon's Diamond Monroe, who scored 17 points on five three's, made it 60-58 with 16 seconds to go. The Phoenix had one last opportunity to tie or win the game with eight seconds remaining but a strong defensive stop at the buzzer sealed the verdict.

UNCW returns to Trask Coliseum for Homecoming Weekend on Sunday vs. rival Charleston at 1 p.m.
