Win Streak Moves to Four Games

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Sean Moore posted his first double-double of the season and Donovan Newby led all scorers with 18 points to lead UNCW to a 78-69 victory over Marshall in men's basketball action on Saturday afternoon at Trask Coliseum.

The Seahawks improved to 7-2, extending their win streak to a season-high four games.

Three Seahawks finished in double figures. Along with Newby's game-high 18, Moore added 14 points and tallied a game-high 16 rebounds and a team-high four assists.
Moore recorded the ninth double-double of his career.

Khamari McGriff finished with 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting and hauled in six rebounds.

Bo Montgomery and Greedy Williams each chipped in with nine points. 

Leading 21-20 with 10:14 left in the first half, the Seahawks went on a 10-2 run to extend the lead to 31-22, forcing Marshall to take a timeout. Moore had a team-high 12 of his 14 total points in the first half, going 5-of-6 from the floor and he recorded his 10th rebound with 3:55 left in the opening half.

The Seahawks led 44-34 at the break and shot 13-of-16 (81%) from the free throw line, while Marshall struggled at the charity stripe, shooting just 5-of-15 (33.3%) in the first half. UNCW also held a 23 to 12 advantage in rebounds after the first 20 minutes.

UNCW extended their lead to a game-high 17 with 12:19 left in the game. Marshall slowly began to mount a comeback over the next 10 minutes. After the Seahawks went over five minutes without a field goal, the Thundering Herd cut the deficit to 70-62 with 1:59 to play.

Trailing by six with 49 seconds to play, Marshall pulled down a rebound after a pair of missed free throws. A few seconds later, Moore picked off a pass at half-court and raced down the floor for the layup for his first points of the second half to extend the lead to eight with 40 seconds to play. 

The Seahawks are back in action on Dec. 14 for a 3 p.m. contest against Howard in Washington, D.C.
