Seahawks Move Past Eagles, 79-66

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW men's basketball team built a double-digit lead at halftime and never trailed en route to a 79-66 victory over Florida Gulf Coast on Wednesday night at Trask Coliseum.

The Seahawks improved to 8-3 with their fifth in their last six contests. The Eagles fell to 3-8 with their third straight loss.

UNCW's Donovan Newby paced the Seahawks for the eighth time this season with a game-high 21 points. Noah Ross delivered 12 points with six rebounds off the bench in his return to action while Nolan Hodge contributed 11 points.

FGCU's Zavian McLean also recorded 20 points along with Keeshawn Kellman's 16 markers to go with nine rebounds.

UNCW, ahead 18-16 with 9:45 to go in the first half, scored seven unanswered points, the most consecutive points in the game by either team, to make it 25-16 on a Newby three-pointer with 8:11 before halftime and carried a 37-25 lead into the break.

The Eagles pulled within single digits twice in the second half but the Seahawks kept their foot on the gas and led by as many as 19 points, 71-52, with 7:34 for the victory.

UNCW continues its five-game homestand on Saturday at 2 p.m. vs. UNC Asheville. The game will be aired locally on Fox Wilmington along with Flo College.
